American Tetsu Shin Ryu Kempo is our parent art of which five other arts are incorporated. These arts are: Kempo Karate, Jiu-Jitsu, Karate Do, Kempo-Jitsu and Kobudo (Weapons).
The following will help you understand more about our system.
Tetsu Shin Ryu Kempo (Parent Art)
Tetsu Shin Ryu Kempo is our parent art and requires a student to hold the rank of Yondan (4th Degree Black Belt) in Kempo Karate and a Sandan (3rd Degree Black Belt) in Jiu-Jitsu, Karate Do, Kempo-Jitsu and Kobudo before the rank of Godan (5th Degree Black Belt) in Kempo is earned. Godan rank signifies years of practice and masterful understanding of this system and the arts contained within this system.
Tetsu Shin Ryu Kempo Karate
Kempo Karate is composed of hard fist Karate Do, soft fist Jiu-Jitsu, and Kobudo. Kempo Karate combines long range punching and kicking skills, short range knees, elbows, throws, takedowns and ground grappling skills. Kempo Karate teaches defenses against grabs, pushes, punches, holds, kicks, and weapons.
Tetsu Shin Ryu Jiu-Jitsu
Our Jiu-Jitsu art is a combination of Japanese Jiu-Jitsu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and emphasizes defending against opponents with the use of leverage, off-balancing, redirection, joint manipulating techniques, and submission holds to render an opponent harmless. Jiu-Jitsu teaches self defense orientated techniques and focuses on ground grappling. Jiu-Jitsu also combines effective leg kicks, striking, with throws, and takedowns. Jiu-Jitsu is 20% long range skills, 30% short range skills and 50% ground grappling skills.
Tetsu Shin Ryu Karate Do
Karate Do teaches long range punching and kicking skills, short range knee and elbow skills with sweeping and tripping skills. Karate Do can be classified as a kickboxing art. Karate Do is 70% long range skills, 30% short range skills
Tetsu Shin Ryu Kobudo
Kobudo is the training of a student in the use of weapons in a defensive and offensive situation. Weapons are an extension of the body. If you cannot use your hands or feet then weapons training will be almost impossible to master. Some of the weapons are: bo, keibo(sticks), knife, cane, and yawara.
Tetsu Shin Ryu Kempo–Jitsu
Kempo–Jitsu is our Self Defense art. Kempo –Jitsu is the no non-sense fighting art within our system. Kempo-Jitsu trains a student to use the stick & knife. The use of off balancing, redirection, and joint manipulation is used. Knees & elbows along with short range kicks are taught.
